THE SPORT

The Firefighter Combat Challenge/Firefit is a competition based on firefighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations. Competitors must wear full firefighting protective clothing and don a Scott SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) and complete the following 6 tasks as fast as possible

STAIR CLIMB

The first event is the stair climb with High Rise Pack. The High Rise Pack is a bundle of hose weighing 42 pounds. This is carried up the stairs to the top floor of the tower (40 ft., 6 flights, 60 steps)

HOSE HOIST

A 45 lb Donut Roll of hose must be hauled (usually hand over hand motion) up to the top landing of the tower, lifted and placed in the box

FORCIBLE ENTRY

The Forcible entry evolution utilizes a Keiser Force Machine (chopping simulator). Using the 8 lb (4kg) shot mallet provided, the competitor moves the beam 1 foot for the Canadian course and 5 ft for the American course, generating over 300 lbs of force. Once this task is complete the competitor must place the hammer on the designated 4’ x 4’ area.

RUN

Competitors then run as fast as he/she can around the hydrants a distance of 140 ft then shoulders the nozzle end of a fully charged hoseline.

HOSE ADVANCE

Competitor then drags a fully charged hoseline a distance of 75 ft. Once the nozzle crosses into the Nozzle Zone, the competitor hits a target with a water stream.

VICTIM RESCUE

Known to the competitors ans the "dummy drag".  This is the  most difficult task of the course because the competitors legs are full of lactic acid and legs and lungs are burning.  To finish the course, a 175 lb. Simulaids Rescue Randy mannequin must be dragged backwards a distance of 100 ft. Time stops when the competitor crosses the beam at the finish line with the mannequin.

Individual Race

Competitors compete as individuals and try to finish the course as fast as they can.
